 The International Conference on

Engineering Geophysics

 The 5th International Conference on Engineering Geophysics has recommended the importance of rising the use of geophysical satellite information for detailed groundwater studies in the country. Linking geophysical studies with geotechnical drilling in order to obtain more accurate information regarding subsurface structures to avoid problems related to infrastructure and the importance of using artificial intelligence to support and develop geophysical studies, and including of engineering and environmental geophysics in academic programs. The conference, which was held from 21-24 October at the United Arab Emirates University in cooperation with the Municipality of Al Ain City, focused on the global innovation of the local varieties, which was held under the patronage of HH Sheikh Tahnoun bin Mohamed Al Nahyan, Ruler's Representative in Al Ain Region. The conference concentrated on innovative works in the field of environmental and engineering geophysics. Participants from the United States, Europe, Australia, China, Japan, the GCC and other countries were able to exchange experiences and ideas, discuss future goals, raise public awareness of the importance of the field of geophysics and its applications. Climate change and the role of geophysics in solving climate problems, in addition to reviewing new and innovative ideas linking artificial intelligence and geophysics such as creating an electronic platform for the use of varied information of geophysics in the exploration of oil and water, and the review of innovative ideas for teaching methods of Geophysics and its role in climate change.

 UAEU celebrates a year before the 

launching of Expo 2020 

 The UAEU has inaugurated the official website in Expo 2020 under the slogan "Discover, Develop and Cooperate .They celebrated the start of the countdown of 1 year till Expo 2020 and the University’s participation with its own pavilion in this great event for the UAE at the global level, where the University will showcase the higher education and scientific research in the country. UAEU’s participation is considered part of the preparation work for launching “the University of the Future", a new and innovative concept of higher education in the Arab world.

 The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is participating with a distinguished range of services and projects at GITEX TECHNOLOGY EXHIBITION 2019 at the Dubai World Trade Center. The University pavilion has witnessed a remarkable turnout from GITEX visitors who are interested in the world of contemporary technologies and innovations in the field of scientific research, especially with regard to robotics, space .technology and artificial intelligence

HE Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance, has participated with a number of Arabic and non-Arabic speaking students from the private schools in Al Ain  in the “Arabic is the Language of Tolerance” initiative which is considered one of the most important summer events at schools.

In the presence of HE Saeed Ahmed Ghobash, UAEU Chancellor, HE Director-General of the Office of the UAE Ministry of Tolerance, Prof. Mohamed Albaili, UAEU Vice Chancellor, Noura Al Kuwaiti, Director of Business Development at the Continuing Education Center, Dr. Ibrahim Mohamed Ali, Head of the Arabic Language Programs Unit and Supervisor of the “Arabic is Language Tolerance” Initiative, and Ahmed Albastaki, Deputy Director at Emirates National Schools, and a number of the Ministry of Tolerance’s management team.

UAEU Orchestra 

the voice of native talent

 

 

With the active participation of 63 male and female musicians as well as some faculty members, the UAEU Great Hall witnessed the first activity of the UAEU Orchestra during the graduation ceremony of the students. They h performed the national anthem and oriental music on stringed, percussion, wood and brass instruments. This cultural and creative initiative reflects the UAEU's orientation to be a source of civilization and enlightenment beacon through the establishment of specialized student teams capable of competing and participating in the dissemination the values of giving and art appreciation, and the integration of orchestral art in the UAE cultural fabric.

Moza Al Ketbi, Head of University Campus Life, confirmed that the University Orchestra receives great support from the University’s leadership which has contributed to the provision of a music product that complies with international curricula and achieves the strategic vision of the University in its keenness to equip future generations with new tools, knowledge and skills enabling them to achieve success.

Political Awareness Forum emphasizes the importance of

elections as a national merit

 

The eighth session of the Political Awareness Forum for UAEU Students, organized by the National Elections Commission and the Ministry of State for Federal National Council Affairs in cooperation with UAEU, is an important platform for communicating with the youth, promoting their political culture and galvanize their participation in the parliamentary work in UAE, where participants in the forum stressed that the elections of the Federal National Council are of national merit. 

 

A delegation of students from Zhejiang University of China

visits UAEU

 

Within the framework of enhancing the educational and research relations between the two universities, a delegation of graduate students, at Zhejiang University, one of the most prestigious universities in China, started a scientific visit to the UAEU.

Working under the auspices of the agreements and memorandum of understanding signed in 2017 between the two universities, this is the second visit by a delegation of Zhejiang University, and during the visit the graduate students at the Zhejiang University made a presentation on the latest projects related to the development of cultural and social life and the media industry, the use of the latest technical systems based on building a sustainable economy, developing smart cities, urban planning, and how to address the social challenges facing humankind in the present era.

The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) has announced the admission of 12 students to its Law Ph.D program for AY 2019/2020 which marks the 1st year of the program. This is after the program has received international accreditation by WASC, and national academic accreditation by the Commission on Academic Accreditation at the Ministry of Education.

Emirati students create a "cruise control" to face traffic accidents

 In order to cope with extreme speed, which is one of the most important causes of traffic accidents, a group of students: Moza Al Shamsi, Shamma Al Badwawi and Zekriat Al Dhuhoori decided to invent a device that automatically fixes the car speed according to the prescribed street speed.

Two students create a smart application that serves people with Visual Impairment & Blindness

Two UAEU Students invented a scientific application for people of determination that serves people with visual impairment and blindness. The smart application, called "uSTEP", is easy to download via smart phones, and provides several services for people of determination that meets the requirements of their daily lives. It also has won the Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum Award for Distinguished Academic performance, under the category of the best scientific innovation.

Students Create Innovative “Ram Car for Mars” Project

A group of UAEU Students: Anood Al-Katheeri, Fatima Al-Nuaimi, Mai Al-Mazrouei, Safia Mohammed, and Sheikha Al-Naqbi, College of Engineering, Department of Mechanical Engineering, have invented a “Ram Car for Mars” project, which can work on the red planet and is suited to surface conditions. It gives opportunities to astronauts to move from place to place in the future Mars missions.

The team explained that the car weighs approximately 450 kilograms, and operates with four batteries weighing 36 kilograms, that can be recharged using solar energy, which provides motors «electric motors» with energy, and move the wheels of the car. The car was designed based on the engineering design steps that are adopted in mechanical engineering where after the design stage, the parts of the car were built and installed, and the direction control was programmed to enable the astronaut to control the car.

Robot in the service of people of determination

Al Ain Center for Care and Rehabilitation has started the experimental use of the NAO robot for students with intellectual disabilities, especially those with autism, in cooperation with the Artificial Intelligence Laboratory at UAEU. The robot works on enhancing visual communication, strengthens and helps prevent students from being distracted, increases their attention and focus while learning letters, numbers and shapes. It also develops their social interaction as it is equipped with fixed audio receivers related to speech recognition and analysis, this technique allows the student to understand the meanings of certain words, and allows them to understanding new words.

 UAEU launches the first space research center in the Middle East

The UAEU is entering a new phase by providing the largest number of technological innovations that can be shared with the industrial sector and be of a benefit, through the launching of the National Space Science and Technology Center which considered the first research space center in the middle East. This center will conduct research, developmental and innovative projects in space. There will be multidisciplinary research areas centered on satellite communications, remote sensing, space and atmospheric science and space technology, enhancing the country's scientific and research capabilities in these areas. 

 Khalifa Biotechnology Finds out "Palm Sugar" Genes

The Khalifa Center for Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering at UAEU has discovered the genes which are responsible for palm sugar, which is a very important and necessary feature in all crops. This has allowed for the first time the formation of a massive genome database of more than 150 varieties of palm trees and has succeeded as the 1st center in the world to complete the genetic composition of palm weevil, which contributes to reducing them by progressive scientific methods. 

 UAE sends palm seeds to the International Space Station

The UAE Space Agency has announced that it will send seeds from the palm tree to the International Space Station in the next few days to study how they are impacted by the space environment and the possibility of cultivating it on Mars in the future. This is a scientific experiment organized by the UAEU and the “Nano Rax” company. The launching will be from Cape Canaveral, Florida, in the United States, aboard the “Falcon 9”, which will carry SpaceX's Dragon vehicle, on mission 18 to provide the International Space Station with supplies. 

 The effectiveness of artificial intelligence in the 100% detection of skin cancer

 Dr. Hassan Galadari, Assistant professor at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAEU and Dermatology Consultant, has exposed that the commonness of alopecia in the UAE is up to 1%, a genetic disease mainly related to the immune system, and because of inbreeding is becoming a chronic disease, and recently used new treatments for the disease were used to treat other diseases have proven effectiveness, however, the scientific studies have proven the effectiveness of artificial intelligence in identifying the incidence of skin cancer beyond the ability of doctors, as doctors’ diagnosis rate of 85%, and artificial intelligence topped that percentage to approximately 100%.

4 Students from the College of Information Technology

A group of UAEU students:  Amer Al Shamsi, Hayab Al Ketbi, Abdullah Al Ketbi and Khalid Al Nuaimi, have utilized block chain technology in issuing university graduation certificates as this technology was used in issuing currency, land deeds and maintaing medical records. This technology is characterized by its ability to preserve the data stored in it, and prevents its modification or falsification, as well as verifies the source.

 

 

 

"Future Makers " ... UAEU students at the United Nations to pick up leadership skills

As part of the “Future Makers” program, a group of UAEU Students visited the United Nations headquarters in New York City to learn about the duties and responsibilities of the UN Economic and Social Council.

Three UAEU National Students have passed the International Medical Test "National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME)” with Excellence

United Arab Emirates University

A group of three students from the college of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAEU have achieved outstanding results in the National Board of Medical Examiners (NBME) test, which was held within the final exams for the fourth year at the end of last month. The students are Sheikh Hamed Hussein, Maitha Ali Saeed Al Neyadi, Sara Ali Al Marzouki, rated "Excellent" in this test, which measures the educational achievement of medical students in each stage. The grades are compared among the internationally recognized students in a standardized manner and their classification accordingly.

 

4 Students from Biology Department invent new product to treat skin diseases

United Arab Emirates University

A group of Students; Aisha Al Shehhi, Shamma Al Kaabi, Ghalia Yahyaei and Jawaher Al Saedi invented a new product to be used in the treating of skin diseases.

For her part, Jawaher Al-Saadi said that “The idea of this project is to provide a medicinal product made from natural materials available in the environment (the virus), some people may think after hearing the word virus that it is harmful, However, what people are not aware of is that the different types of viruses, one is harmful bacteria, while the other is a virus for humans and plants as well.

 

 Mass Communication Students launch media campaigns of a humanitarian nature

A group of students from the Department of Mass Communication at UAEU stressed the importance of the numerous media campaigns they have launched for students, staff of the university and the external community. The campaigns this year had a humane element to it in keeping with the Year of Tolerance” theme
